Das Denkmal f\u00fcr den franz\u00f6sischen Erbauer wurde 1899 am Nordende des Suezkanals errichtet. Die siebeneinhalb Meter hohe Bronzestatue wurde 1956, bei einem Aufstand w\u00e4hrend der Suez-Krise, vom Sockel gest\u00fcrzt und stark besch\u00e4digt. Nur der leere Steinsockel ohne Lesseps-Statue blieb vom urspr\u00fcnglichen Denkmal in Port Said \u00fcbrig.
