In diesem Brief geht es auch um ein Kanalprojekt, das eine Wasserstra\u00dfe zwischen Alexandrien und Suez vorsieht. Dieser Kanal sollte vom Nil gespeist werden. Dieses Projekt wird offenbar von Stephenson favorisiert, obwohl er nie vor Ort war. Geschrieben am 27. Juli 1857, Paris.\"M(onsieu)r Stephenson est all\u00e9, il est vrai, en \u00c9gypte, mais il n'a pas mis le pied dans l'isthme que le canal projet\u00e9 par M(onsieu)r de Lesseps doit traverser. Cette \u00e9tude en commun de M(essieurs) Talabot, de Negrelli, et Stephenson a produit: pour la part de Mr Talabot, un nivellement exact \u00e0 travers l\u2019isthme ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 par des op\u00e9rateurs fran\u00e7ais; pour celle de M(onsieu)r de Negrelli, des sondages et des observations de mar\u00e9e dans la baie de P\u00e9luse, faits par des op\u00e9rateurs autrichiens, pour la part de M(onsieu)r Stephenson charg\u00e9 de l\u2019exploration de la baie de Suez, rien.\"[Herr Stephenson war zwar in \u00c4gypten, aber er hat den Isthmus, durch den der von Herrn de Lesseps geplante Kanal verlaufen soll, nicht betreten.
